I made the mistake of reading a book about the Vietnam War a month ago. Now, I've read several.
Then someone came up with the bright idea of helping along this budding interest by offering me some gear. Now, I'm the proud owner of a US Army Loadout.
It's a mix of 56 and 67 gear, all in great shape. A flak jacket in my size (Waaa!? No wai, awesome). Helmet, NOS boots, and several other cool pieces of kit. Now I just need a name tape and an idea of which division I want to be. Something late war (1970, not 1944, got to wrap my head around that) so I can rock my M203? Aw yeah
I'm pretty stoked about this. Now I require all current members who do not have a VN loadout to buy black PJs...please...PLEASE! *so stoked*

I definatly can do black PJs (till I get my own VN loadout that is!), and I even have an AK (2 actually). I just don't have the rice paddy hat. I would certianly play the role of VC for you though! That is if i ever actually make it out to a game of course!

Soon, soooooon! This year, we'll try to have a good year of fun. I was talking with the Von Sass and he's mentioned that the ol' straw hats are pretty cheap and available locally, as well PJs and the chest rigs (from Crown). I'm tempted to pick up a few just because.

Nice! I have a chest rig already, but that'd be awesome to get the hat and PJs!

I was having some fun. I need to get some VN Mags, and need to get dirty, so dirty. Mind you, at 21C (70F), that flack jacket was already making me sweat. Would be a beast in the jungles. Also, some fun with Photoshop

Wow, looks good. And yeah I wouldn't wanna wear that flak jacket in 30 degree heat. For VN mags the plastic 85 rounders feed really well, I modded all my BAR mags with one in each and that beast feeds really well. Or there are metal ones at like 4 times the price. The unit thing is kinda tough if you want uber realism. The vest were "lost" by most troops the longer they were in country, and not even issued to some units later in the war cuz everyone knew what was gonna happen to them, but the 203 wasn't issued to any troops till 71 or 72 I believe. Marines wore the vest longer, but by 72 they were mostly just scout/sniper teams and embassy guards left as active Marines in Nam. Equipmesmt is easy for late war guys, because the 56 pattern stuff was still being issued like days before the pull out, so any combination of 56, 67, and even the late war experimental stuff is good for any combat troop late in the war. For Army troops late in the war really the only distinguishing marks for one unit over another(except for SFs like LRRP, SEALs, SOG, etc, who by late in the war weren't really active any more anyway) was the shoulder flash, and occasionally the presence of camo, but that was more a platoon by platoon rather than unit by unit. By the end of the war many reg units were issued tiger stripe or ERDL, but usually whole platoon or companies got it, and sometimes the platoons right next to them didn't. So throw an air cav or screaming eagle or a big red one on your shoulder, ditch the flak jacket(a shame cuz its awesome) and you would look the part pretty much bang on. Or do like the guys at the Normandy games do and keep the flak vest and pretend your 203 came out 5 years early like the Germans do with their STGs. Or borrow Peters 60, lose the tunic but wear the vest and do an Animal Mother day.Tthat's one of the 2 impressions I really wanna see at Nam games. The other is a guy with a shotgun painting his face black and wearing an afro wig, but that just me. Oh and he would have to run around yelling "What do you people mean you people" Tropic Thunder style for anyone that didn't get the reference.
Gives you enough time to get set up for the Tet game we are planning to run in June. Just hafta make it out to the fields this month and figure out which ones will work for the game, let us use fireworks, use vehicles(possibly even tracked vehicles fingers crossed) and play at night.
