I know this site caters mostly to WWII, but I wanted to post this here for those interested. The following is Huxley's post for the game(some of you know him)
Listen up. It seems as if this year the VC/NVA will be recognizing the Tet seize fire again. If you got leave passes, enjoy your time in Saigon. If not, try to enjoy a quiet night on base.
Who: Enlisted and volunteers ages 16+
When: 2000 7 June 1968 - 1300 8 June 1968
Where: Grunts Paintball
How Much: As of right now $50, but props will dictate final price
If you haven't dodged the draft, or are reuping for another tour in the suck, you know the drill. For you cherries remember the following:
US/Aussie/SVA/etc: ODs, Tiger Stripes, ERDL, Duck Hunter, Hawaiin Shirts, Blue Jeans.
VC/NVA: Black PJs, Tans, civis (NO JEANS)
Those are your allowed uniform choices. Rather cheap to buy. Heck, wear your civis and some pouches on a belt. All MOLLE platforms, and tac vests will not be allowed to come onto the field.
Rifles: Use whatever gun you want. BUT, you are not allowed to have any thing hanging off the rails unless it's a battery box, or any form of optic unless it's attached to a carry handle, or on a bolt action rifle.
When you sign up, please put your desired team. At some point Bandit Brother or Myself will PM you with some questions.
I followed that up with this:
OK, Just to make a few things a little more clear. The game is based around the Tet cease fire of 1968 in Saigon, as such a few things are changing from previous years Nam games:
US, ARVN, Auusie forces: Full Nam kit is a definite bonus, but as the US side will be split into some different groups there is more leeway for them, and the fact that many of them are "on leave" means some civilian clothes is permissible. Some guys in full on era looking kit is a good thing, and necessary, so for this it is all the old familiar favrites of Nam combats: ERDL(or woodlands cuz it is close enough), Beogam and duck hunter(if you don't know what those are don't worry about it, you don't have any), ODs of any kind(US or Canadian as long as it is the solid greens and not WWII style "tan" ODa), and tiger stripe. For those on leave they are free to wear any civilian tops they want, but are strongly encouraged to wear one of the above combat pants. And the wilder and uglier the shirt the better it is, you are after all over stressed US combat troops in an active war zone on an extended leave. Those men are generally drunk and not prone to good taste or sublety. Blue Jeans and a top of any of the above combat tops is still perfectly acceptable(congratulations, you have just become a SEAL, or possibly some other SF, and even possibly a CIA asset). For those on the US side who want to do jeans and a civilian top make that top as flamboyant and outrageous as you have in your closet to make you stand out from all the locals in civilian clothes. Whatever you have for belt kit is preferable, even just pulling mag pouches of your plate carrier and putting it on a web belt or pistol belt. NO PLATE CARRIERS. Certain older style chest rigs are fine(chicom, and older Blackhawk style) but please try not to show up in high speed low drag modern stuff. If all you have is a more modern H harness that you want to use that is fine, but please strip it down a little to make it more "era" looking.
NVA/VCbviously era loadouts are acceptable, but all tan for NVA and all black for VC are also fine. This is any kind of tan or black, cargo Khakis, whatever. Further many of the VC involves were not wearing the black pajamas, but rather dressed in typical South Vietnam style civilian clothes. Think plain colored pants and button up shirts, NO JEANS(at the time this was still a very AMERICAN garment, and had an unfortunate side effect of people occasionally trying to collect the bounties the NVA had placed on SEALs and their SVN counterparts). Having some VC dressed in civilian clothing will be a definite asset for this side, so plan accordingly. Again, older kit is recommended. For the NVA side they actually did use a combination of every kind of kit that had been made in the 75 years prior to the war, including but not limited to WWI (yes that is ONE not TWO) German belt kit. So any thing made by any one pre molle is perfectly acceptable. That's chest rigs, web gear, belt kits, shoulder bags etc etc etc. Anything more recent is subject to the same limits as the US side, but once again, any attempt to make newer stuff seem era is appreciated.
Weapons: Era weapons preferred, but more modern ones are fine too. Accessories that would not have been present in the VN War are not, unless the gun wont work without them, such as battery boxes. Red dot sights are not acceptable unless they are of era and mounted like era(Yes I have one, and no it wont be used at any Nam games. I don't want it shot off my gun). Scopes are only acceptable if they are of era design(i.e. the carry handle scopes), or on a bolt action gun(these are fine regardless of type of scope or way of mounting). Night vision and night vision scopes are not acceptable unless they are again era. so unless you want to carry around a car battery you cant use one. Ammo limits and MG limits will be announced at a later date.
Radios: Once again, they are acceptable, but two rules. No modern headsets. Hand sets and open mike are both fine. And they must be in a ruck(back pack, not butt pack) or be used as a "base station" radio, in which case they user doesn't have to have it in a pack, but it cant be movesd, so its really only useful at bases, FOBs and radio bunkers. Teams can deploy these as they see fit, but they can be lost to you if the position is lost. VC side will have less mobile radios, so they may want to think through bugles or something to use as signals, but do not use whistles(see below for why), or they may feel it is not necessary. I will leave that up to them. And before any one complains about this, the US will have their own radio problems.
As for other gear, this is an evening/overnight game, so there is some required gear. Of course everything you need to keep your gun going, and food to keep you going. But admins will be looking for a few things on you. These are non negotiable: WATER(if you don't have any with you then you will be sent to find a gas station to buy some), A WHISTLE (portions of the field have thick bush, so in case of injury or getting lost the whistles may be required to get other players attention and assistance), a FLASHLIGHT (if I need to explain this you may need to rethink showing up), a KILL RAG and a CHEM LIGHT/STROBE LIGHT/SIGNAL LIGHT etc9 these are to mark dead players at night, I personally use one of those flashlights that look like chem lights, but have a flash light, strobe light and red chem light like glow)
It is a Nam game, but any one who can cobble together a kit for either side is welcome to come. The game does start at 2000, the reason for the late start is that the game kicks off with fireworks, so setting them off at noon is a little counterproductive. It will also be more of a milsim, with the actual mission and such being tuned to player attendance, so the more people show up the more stuff you will have to do. Hope to see some of you out there.
