Well gentlemen, how about we get some Soldbuchs together for the 65th Infanterie Division
I'd like to know who has one, and if it is blank. If you don't own one, we can arrange a group order.
For those who have a filled in Soldbuch, I will still need this information for other unit paperwork.
We need a digital picture (selfie time!?) of you in your wool field tunic, down to about the bottom of the flaps of the tunic breast pockets, and posed looking slightly to your right. No hats or glasses, and your hair needs to be neatly combed (and often oiled) back, and your collar closed. You shouldn't be smiling, but feel free to look as constipated as you can
First and last name: (German names of the period commonly did not have middle name)
Rank: (Don't worry about the German equivalent. Likely, since it's after 1942, you're a Grenadier)
Birthdate: (Consider that we will likely portray late war 43-45, and you're likely to get a few years out of your soldbuch)
Birthplace: (fictional...of course)
Recruitment Date:
Blood type: (If you don't know, make it up and we won't use it as a basis for field blood transfusions , It'll either be A, B, AB, or O. There was no -/+)
Religion: (Catholic, Protestant, Athiest (Rare at the time but not unknown), or "Gottglaubig" (Believes in God, but rejects the organized churches...which sounds nice but was used more if you wanted to look good with the party))
Trade: (Soldiers weren't highly technical, but everyone had a trade, or was a labourer. Think about your birthplace and what might have happened there. Rural means you won't be a tram operator )
Height:
Haircolour:
Eyecolour:
Distinguishing marks: (Scars, glasses, your sweet little beauty mark)
Shoesize: (US works. We'll convert it.)
Maritial Status: (If married, include your wife's name)
Parents Names: (In addition, if your family befell tragedy during Anglo-American bombing raids, indicate a date)
Some additional information:
-- If you have any medals issued to you by the unit, please list them. Keep in mind that we generally don't have medals to keep us from looking like Christmas trees, or wearing things we didn't earn. Having said that, there will be some that the unit will issue (Break a leg at a re-enactment, you might end up with a wound badge).
-- Consider your back story. Maybe you didn't join the 65th infantry right away. Maybe you're a little older and you're like me who came from another re-enactment unit.
-- Consider hospital stays. Ever had a bout of the clap? Maybe you had some dysentery? Think about the dates and the duration if you want to add a bit to your soldbuch.
-- As well, suggest anything we haven't covered here. It is, after all, your story.
Alles gute,
Rainer Schmidt, Feldwebel
