Wow, just wow.
For those who are wondering what a Tactical is, it is a full immersion event with blank firing weapons. ZERO public.
The event ran from 0900 Saturday July 19, 2014 to 0900 Sunday July 20, 2014.
We arrived, dug foxholes, and kitted up. After a delay (brought on by outside elements), it started rolling.
1st Battle:
The 65th Infanterie Division cut a supply line of the FSSF by taking up defensive positions in the nearby forest. Foliage was thick, and the FSSF made a slow advance along the roadway until making contact. It came on fast with both sides taking casualties. The foliage allowed for the FSSF to close in tight, and the superior numbers overwhelmed the 65th defenders causing further casualties and resulting in a couple prisoners. The were questioned "Man, that was cool, want to do it again?"
2nd Battle:
The 65th Infanterie advanced towards the FSSF front lines. Cresting a hill in a low crawl, they observed the FSSF mortar and support trenches. A quick fire-fight ensued until the mortar was brought into the fight. No casualties. Most of the 65th withdrew with the stragglers regrouping after a flanking attempt was repulsed with heavy fire.
The 65th established a defensive line and awaited the counter-attack. The FSSF then dispatched a recon element which was surprised in the open and destroyed.
The 65th renewed it's advance and caught the FSSF exposed on high ground. Elements of the FSSF were detached to flank the 65th while it was engaged in a heavy fire-fight. These elements were successful in inflicting casualties on the 65th squad leaders, but they were destroyed in turn. A chaotic fire-fight ensued with both sides becoming intermixed. Very few were left unscathed.
Night Activites:
Both sides conducted patrols against the front line positions all night. Rocket Artillery (Fireworks) and flares kept the defenders on their toes. Heavy casualties on both sides when the moonlight alerted the 65th of the impending attack at 0300, however the patrol was successful in breaching the 65th position. Cheese and crackers were served.
Morning:
The 65th made preparations to withdraw, but they conducted one last patrol. The FSSF was caught COMPLETELY unaware and was captured to the man. Fur you, das var ist ofer, Amerikanen!
Overall Impression:
It was fantastic! Having fought with the 65th, I think we did an excellent job both tactically, and personally. Very happy with my first Canadian Tactical Re-enactment and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Schuler, post pictures!!
