After action? What action?? 2013 was a bust. No D-Day, No Silver Creek games. No… Nuthin'. A couple tries in Calgary with dubious results. That being said, BOTH games were, for me at least, a hoot. Kudos to me and Heisse Scheisse for keeping the dream alive. And kudos to those brave souls who share that dream and joined in. A few more and we woulda had a couple serious games on our hands. But two games all Spring/Summer is pretty abysmal given how many of us I know are out there. WWII games is why I got into airsoft. I know you guys have a pile of guns and gear just collecting dust out there… So I'm gonna highjack this whole AAR idea and call this the Pre-Action Report. Here's how it's gonna go down...
March/April - weather permitting, I will host a season opener at Warpaint. It'll probably be the real-cap scenario I've been working on. Pyro, spies (!), rifles, pistols… Every month thereafter - Can we please get something happening at the other fields? I don't care if there's a written game - I'm good to skirmish the day away with 0 structure. The weekend Warriors field in Olds is apparently pretty cool. I know Silver Creek rocks. Would anyone be game to head all the way out to Cochrane's paintball field for some? He has some great terrain… What else is there in the Red Deer/Ponoka/Edmonton region? I'm prepared to drive. I hope everyone else is too.
Long and short of it - I'm always on the lookout for fields/farms that might accommodate our needs. If you have suggestions, get 'em on the table! I really, really, really want to play more WWII in 2014.

I wholeheartedly agree agree with you. 2013 was a monsterous bust for airsoft in general I think. We really do need to get more structure going and even if they're skirmish games I need to gear up!!

Ah yes, I've just finally picked up STG-44 Pouches, so I suppose I'll need to real cap my STG-44. Heisse Sheisse, I might need your help As for available land, I'll keep my ear to the ground, but there is Bragg Creek Paintball (perhaps) and thousands of stops between here and Edmonton. The RAAT guys, where do they play? Also, camping prior to a WarPaint day would be sick. I'm always down for spending a night in a shelter quarter.

Yeah if I get my hands on a tommy I'll be in, and we can advert on jocairsoft and around for recruits. I would encourage the use of firecrackers and realism rules, just have a good ol time with it, lost boys style. No fightin', lol.

Meaning, the less stuffy rules the better. The more simple a game is to play, the more fun can be had with it... we're out there living boyhood dreams and scrimming for fun, not playing in the NHL or drilling for battle. Naw'meen?

Our ruleset is pretty basic. We already try to keep our rules to period standards wrt magazine capacity and allowable weapons. We don't care if someone comes to a game with a G36, M4/16, ak47, whatever. All we ask is that a little effort be put in by the attendee to fit in with the period. It's World War 2. Look the part. No Molle, rail attachments, modern looking equipment or anything that looks out of place or odd. I don't think that's too much to ask. We have a great interest in this, we also do blank fire reenactment for public viewing at the Military Museums, as well as public events in Edmonton etc. we try to immerse ourselves in it as much as we can to properly portray a period Trooper or Soldat, we don't expect everyone to do that.

I've been looking around but have been having a tough time locating any US Army(Rangers specifically) garb for re-enactments, any lines on a good place that can make a guy look like he belongs on the set of Saving Private Ryan?

Www.atthefront.comWww.whatpriceglory.comI know those 2 vendors are highly recommended by other guys that portray the US. Hikishop.com is a good starting point for lower end stuff that you can beat up airsofting in.

Ranger gear isn't all that different from regular Us Infantry gear. In fact the biggest difference is unit patches, and for a very short few months they were issued more of the assault vests than other units. But since they were universally hated they got "lost" as quickly as possible. You know its bad when a guy would rather use an M28 Haversack. Web gear is just a haversack and belt, which varies depending on which weapon you were issued. BAR gets a BAR ammo belt, Garand gets a Garand ammo belt, Thompson and M1 Carbine get a pistol belt with ammo pouches/bags. Then its just the add ons to the belt(canteen, pistol holster, knife, first aid pouch, etc) as needed and that's it. Uniform (technically) is a white issue Tshirt, button up wool shirt, HBT top and bottom, M41 Parsons coat and an M1 pot, but you don't really need the first 2 shirts cuz you can see them under the HBT top, and a lot of guys didn't wear all three shirts. Boots if you go authentic are either rough outs(Army version of boondockers) or service shoes with leggings. A trooper in the Big Red One could be issued an identical loadout with literally the only difference being no Ranger tabs or orange diamond painted on the helmet. For Army gear not very much was ever just one unit or unit type, with the exception of Airborne(but other guys tried to get their good stuff when they could), Early in the war the Rangers even wore the older wool pant uniforms, or tried to get the tanker jackets all through the war(the Parsons coat sucked and wasn't very warm) like Sgt Horvath in SPR.
The 2 places already suggested and WWIIimpressions.com are good places to get what you need, but depending on quality and whether or not it is original you may have to spend a pretty big chunk of change to put together a full kit

Thanks bandit, yeah I get the impression that they could never be perfectly uniform, just all american and uniform according to unit. Basically I really would just aim to look like either a paratrooper or a Ranger from Saving Ryan's Privates. I'll see what I can but at the moment I'm just running a Russian/British merc sniper outfit and that'll have to do...

Well, create an account on here and join up for the 25th of Jan this month. Weather permitting it should be a great time. Kit restrictions are pretty loose for this game as it's just a skirmish.

Wow - this is actually pretty amazing. We've had two WWII games already in 2014 - IN THE DEAD OF WINTER!!! We had two in all of 2013… Fellas - my hat is off to you. You have braved snow, cold, Boche, Amis, Partisanen, Tommies, distance and limited budgets to pull off games in questionable environmental circumstances. Now just imagine what we'll do with a little decent weather! Can't wait!
